We changed to KIT as our new newsletter platform, which allows us to do a couple of nifty things for the peculiar fam. First, it's going to be easier for me to do the fun fact musings (because we need more weird stuff in our lives, daggone it). Second, it actually gives us a newsletter site so if you miss an email everything you need will be here. Now, for your peculiar factoid of the day. I happened to be reading a history of the West Country (around Dorset, England). It's a woman's autobiography and also about her practice of witchcraft in the small rural village where she lived and worked in the 1940s. In it, she casually mentioned that no farm boy ever thought of marrying his girlfriend until she got pregnant--because that was proof they could start a family together, with all the necessary kids to help tend the fields. Interesting, since in the 40's, pregnancy before marriage often meant a woman was treated as an outcast and considered damaged goods/unmarriable. Yet in this town (according to the author) it was considered a pre-req! Now I want to go down a rabbit hole to find out if that was common anywhere else!
